My work has been inspired by being in and interacting with nature for a number of years and following a period of loss and grief, and an agreement for some funding from Wahwn's Go & See Bursary, (Wales Arts in Health and Wellbeing Network), I applied for the January residency at Mud & Wool, in order to study the impact that being totally immersed in Nature would have on my wellbeing. There are panoramic views, soothing walks from the doorstep, nestled between mountains and coast and beautiful clear dark sky. I enjoyed the privacy of a well-equipped and comfortable cottage and the use of a larger studio space, in which I was also gratefully able to teach two sessions to the local community to earn an income.
Jo and Adam, my hosts, were equally welcoming and respectful of my privacy during my stay.
The peace and tranquillity of the space soothed my soul during the month I worked there and I was able to gain control over my emotional turmoil by the end of the residency. We say in Welsh, "lle i enaid cael llonydd," a place for your soul to rest, Mud & Wool truly is just that.
